The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana received funding from the Jewel-Osco Foundation ($87,000), Franciscan Alliance ($10,000), Walmart Foundation through Feeding America ($35,000), Legacy Foundation ($15,000), and the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration ($35,785.20) to address hunger across Lake & Porter Counties through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) education and outreach. SNAP is the largest federal program dedicated to providing temporary monthly benefits to individuals who are income challenged and facing food insecurity. Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield in Indiana announced today that it will commit $661,000 over the next three years to Community Harvest Food Bank, Food Bank of Northwest Indiana, Terre Haute Catholic Charities Foodbank, and Hoosier Hills Food Bank. This funding will help the food banks expand their ability to deliver healthy food to Hoosiers and host additional mobile food distribution events. Cleveland-Cliffs Inc. recently announced a $1 million contribution, through the Cleveland-Cliffs Foundation, to 44 food banks throughout the United States, providing up to 10 million meals. The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is one of the beneficiaries receiving $250,000. Charged to raise matching funds of $125,000, the Food Bank reached out to YOU, our NW Indiana community for help. Indiana National Guard Supports the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues, Governor Eric Holcomb has deployed the Indiana National Guard to help six food banks address the growing need for food assistance. “The food banks are in Marion County (2), Bloomington, Lafayette, Fort Wayne & Merrillville.
