Through a united effort to provide emergency food assistance, Legacy Foundation, Foundations of East Chicago, and Crown Point Community Foundation presented the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana with a $12,500 grant award. The contribution will support new programming focused on serving community members most affected by the Coronavirus pandemic. This includes:
- Targeted Mobile Market Food Distributions for Displaced/Unemployed Individuals in the restaurant, hospitality, and retail industries, experiencing immediate loss of income.
- Senior Food Box Deliveries for high risk, shut in, lacking transportation, or do not qualify for any type of government assistance.
The contribution comes at a time when the Food Bank is increasing capacity to serve an anticipated 62% of Northwest Indiana residents predicted to experience food insecurity as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. The Food Bank is adjusting operations to meet the need.
“The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is addressing a real, relevant need, one that has also become an urgent need for individuals and families who have been hit hard by the current COVID-19 crisis”, said Victor A. Garcia, Executive Director. “We are adapting at a rapid pace to meet the challenge”.
