Strack & Van Til and the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana
Team Up to Fight Hunger in the Region
Strack & Van Til recently presented a check for $91,008 to the Food Bank, the results of the local grocery store chain’s 2016 holiday Checkout Challenge to fight hunger. That amount represents the combined efforts of customers across Northwest Indiana choosing to “round up” their bill when shopping at area Strack & Van Til stores, Ultra Foods, and Town & Country Market throughout November and December of last year.
“We are grateful to Strack & Van Til and the enormous role they continue to play in fighting hunger in Northwest Indiana,” said Steve Beekman, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. “They are not only helping to fill the plates of individuals and families in need, but they are also leading the community to give back and fight hunger any way they can.”
The 2016 Checkout Challenge was the fifth year Strack & Van Til partnered with the Food Bank on a holiday giving campaign.
“Strack & Van Til is honored to continue the mission of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. We attribute a successful Checkout Challenge campaign to our customers who faithfully support our commitment in helping feed the hungry,” said Ashleigh Marlow, public relations for Strack & Van Til.
The funds raised during the holiday Checkout Challenge can provide more than 273,000 meals to individuals and families struggling with hunger across Northwest Indiana.
