The Food Bank of Northwest Indiana is teaming up with Strack and Van Til this November and December to raise funds for hunger relief efforts across the Region. The Checkout Challenge encourages shoppers to “round up” their bill when shopping at Strack and Van Til or Town and Country stores now through December, with the difference going to support the Food Bank’s hunger relief efforts in Northwest Indiana.
“The Round Up campaign is proof that every little bit counts, and even loose change can make a huge difference. Each dollar raised will provide three meals to a child or adult in need,” said Steve Beekman, executive director of the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. “We are so grateful to Strack & Van Til and their customers for continuing to support the Food Bank’s mission and join the fight against hunger in Northwest Indiana.”
“Our goal at Strack & Van Til and Town & Country is to help build brighter futures,” said Ashleigh Marlow, public relations coordinator at Strack & Van Til. “An easy way to contribute this holiday season is by rounding-up your order at any of our store locations. All proceeds will benefit the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana. ”
This marks the 6th annual Holiday giving campaign for the Food Bank and Strack and Van Til, and it aims to continue the tradition of making a significant impact in holiday hunger around Northwest Indiana. In 2016, the Checkout Challenge raised $91,000 for hunger relief—a sum that provides more than 270,000 meals for individuals and families in need.
“When shoppers choose to round up at the register, that change will provide nutritious meals for families right here in our own community,” said Beekman.
In addition to the Round Up campaign, Strack & Van Til, along with Calumet Breweries, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, and Mondelez International came together to sponsor Thanksgiving meal assistance for 400 local families. Those meals will be available to any resident in need of food assistance, and will be distributed Monday, November 20 from 10am-12pm at Carter Memorial Church in Gary (635 W 49th Avenue).
