Area supporters make the Food Bank of Northwest Indiana’s Hope for the Holidays initiative possible. These contributions to provide holiday meal food assistance to neighbors in Lake County and Porter County are significant.
Tricia Sheaks, VP Operations & Programming, explains, “Our Mobile Market program serves 100 – 500 households every market. We currently run 4-5 markets each week. The regular grocery items given out requires ongoing sourcing support. To be able to pull together the extra, the holiday food, so that neighbors can enjoy a holiday meal with their family takes even more. Honestly, we can’t thank the sponsors enough for stepping forward and making this happen.”
Cesar Estrada, Mobile Market Manager, echoed the sentiment, “It really is incredible, the families are so grateful too. When they pull up and the volunteers put the food in their trunks, you can see the happiness. Though they are in their cars you can hear the thank-you. I know how important it is that the food we give out happens all year long, but the food for a holiday meal adds something special.”
